The Three Rivers Rowing Association (TRRA) is one of the largest community-based rowing and paddling clubs based in the United States.

Location

Members of TRRA practice on the Allegheny River, from just up river of Washingtons Landing to the confluence of the Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers.

History

Early rowing clubs

In the 1800s, The Pittsburgh area had been a major rowing center with over 20 boathouses along the banks of the three rivers. Before professional football, baseball, and hockey it was the predominant sport in the region. However, with the advent of other professional sports and the pollution of the rivers, the sport fell out of favor.

Founding and Growth

The Three Rivers Rowing Association was founded on October 1, 1984.[1] In 1989 the first boathouse was built on Herrs Island. With the growth in popularity of rowing in the region and the usage of the facilities, a second facility offering indoor rowing tanks for year around practice was opened in nearby Millvale, Pennsylvania in 2002.
