Tibbitts @ Fern Hill is a restaurant in the Fern Hill neighborhood of Tacoma, Washington. Chef and owner Shawn Tibbitts opened the restaurant in 2017.[1][2] The small-format restaurant has become known primarily for brunch and has received regional and national recognition, including placement on online review platform Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat in the United States and recognition for brunch from travel publication TripSavvy.[3][4]
History
Tibbitts opened Tibbitts @ Fern Hill on February 25, 2017, initially serving lunch.[5] The restaurant was among the Tacoma-area openings highlighted by local newspaper The News Tribune at the end of that year.[1]
Tibbitts @ Fern Hill developed around a compact dining room and kitchen. In 2020, the kitchen used two campfire burners and a stove for food preparation.[6] By 2024, the restaurant was operating with five tables and continued to emphasize fresh, locally sourced ingredients.[7][4]
By 2024, Tibbitts had focused the restaurant on breakfast and brunch. CNN Travel reported that he was leaning into his Alaska Native heritage and seeking to develop breakfast dishes that differed from conventional offerings.[8]

Tibbitts @ Fern Hill ranked No. 65 on Yelp's 2020 list of the Top 100 Places to Eat in the United States.[3]
In 2022, travel publication TripSavvy selected Tibbitts @ Fern Hill as one of six winners in the Best for Brunch category of its Editors' Choice Awards. Food and lifestyle magazine Food & Wine, covering the selections, noted the restaurant's emphasis on locally sourced ingredients.[4]
Regional lifestyle publication Seattle Magazine included Tibbitts @ Fern Hill among its recommended Tacoma experiences in 2023, describing the restaurant as a local phenomenon with a national reputation for brunch.[9]
Community work
Tibbitts @ Fern Hill has also organized free meals for people in the Tacoma community. The restaurant's community meal efforts were featured in 2018 by Washington Hospitality Magazine, a publication of the Washington Hospitality Association, the state's hospitality industry trade group.[10]
Seattle television station KING 5 reported in January 2020 that Tibbitts had fed 700 people on Thanksgiving and another 500 on Christmas Day through the restaurant's holiday meal efforts.[6]
