Ticia Verveer

Ticia Verveer is a Dutch archaeologist and journalist. She was born on September 26, 1975, in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, to a Jewish family. Her father's family are descendants of Abraham Salomon Cohen Verveer, the grandfather of Holland's most important Jewish Romantic painter, Salomon Leonardus Verveer[1] (1813-1876). The family Verveer are kohanim, descendants of the sons of Aaron who served as priests in the Temple in Jerusalem. The paternal progenitor Abraham Salomon Cohen was forced to change his name in 1811 from "Cohen" to "Verveer". Her mother's family are of French-Greek Jewish origin. Verveer holds a B.A. and a M.A. degree in Near Eastern Archaeology from the University Leiden in the Netherlands. She has lived and worked for extended periods in several countries, including Spain, Israel, Italy, Ireland, Egypt, France, Jordan and Morocco. Verveer is Maternal Health Ambassador for Global Fund for Women, one of the world’s leading foundations for gender equality, standing up for the human rights of women and girls. [2] She is researching the impact of women's participation in militarism, war, peacemaking, peacekeeping, post-conflict recovery, and security efforts, in the past and present. She is an investigator of Nazi looted art, the restitution of national treasures, the global illegal antiquities trade, looting, cultural heritage management, heritage education and cultural property protection.The Global Fight Against Black Market Antiquities Intensifies With over 18 years of excavation experience, she is a contributor to The New York Jewish Week, and The Times of Israel, the largest online newspaper covering Israel, the region, and the Jewish world.
