Tien Vo, MD is a Vietnamese-American physician, healthcare entrepreneur, medical director, and philanthropist based in El Centro, California. He is the founder and Medical Director of Legacy MD Medical Group, a regional multi-specialty clinical network serving the Imperial Valley and Coachella Valley. He is also the founder of the EasyAccess Care IPA network and the Legacy MD Research Institute. Vo is widely recognized for his frontline community health initiatives in Southern California, earning public distinction for his testing and support infrastructure during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Early Life and Education
Vo was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States as a refugee in 1992 at the age of 16. Settling in Southern California with initially limited English proficiency, he completed his secondary education at Magnolia High School in Anaheim while simultaneously undertaking accelerated academic coursework at Cypress College.
He pursued undergraduate studies at the University of California, Riverside, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. He subsequently completed his international medical training at Ross University School of Medicine, obtaining his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree. Vo completed his postgraduate residency training in Internal Medicine at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York City.
Career
Clinical Practice and Medical Group Leadership
In 2014, Vo established his private practice, Vo Medical Center, in El Centro, California. To facilitate cross-functional health expansion, the practice was formally restructured and rebranded as Legacy MD Medical Group in January 2024. As Medical Director, Vo oversees clinical operations across a localized network of comprehensive care facilities spanning El Centro, Calexico, Brawley, and Indio. In October 2024, the organization established a centralized state-of-the-art medical facility integrating a cardiac rehabilitation unit, urgent care infrastructure, and diagnostic imaging services.
Healthcare Administration and Managed Care Networks
To improve safety-net health options for underserved populations across Imperial County, Vo established EasyAccess Care IPA, an Independent Physician Association. The managed care organization operates strategic network partnerships with regional health plans—including Molina, Brand New Day, Astiva, and Clever—to lower systemic barriers to clinical entry for local demographic groups.
Pandemic Response
During the height of the COVID-19 public health crisis, Imperial County experienced some of the highest per-capita infection rates within the State of California. Vo and his medical team coordinated an aggressive local mitigation campaign, conducting over 27,000 diagnostic coronavirus evaluations. His practice was among the earliest private clinical entities in the region to launch drive-through screening centers, deploy mobile clinical teams for home-bound or quarantined individuals, and organize essential nutritional delivery operations. These localized emergency workflows earned praise from national media outlets, with the Associated Press characterizing his proactive community service as a benchmark for frontline regional care.
Clinical Research
Vo is the founder of the Legacy MD Research Institute. The division operates as an implementation site for industry-sponsored clinical research trials, specializing in diagnostic and therapeutic development areas spanning Internal Medicine, metabolic disorders, type 2 diabetes management, weight-loss intervention, infectious disease therapies, anti-aging biology, and vaccine safety protocols.
Philanthropy and Educational Endowments
Vo directs civic giving programs focusing on Southern California community support, veteran appreciation events, and hunger relief initiatives in collaboration with local food networks such as Brawley Feed The Need.
Through the educational hosting network Bold.org, he finances and manages multiple academic aid programs designed to offset institutional costs for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in accredited United States higher education programs. His primary distribution funds include:
- The Tien VO MD Scholarship – An academic support fund for undergraduate and graduate scholars maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
- The Tien VO MD Grant – A financial assistance initiative specifically targeted at students navigating severe financial hardships or unique personal barriers while demonstrating ongoing commitments to civic leadership.
