Tige Boats

History

Tige Boats was founded in 1991 by Charlie Pigeon in Merced, California. The company entered the towboat market during the growth of wakeboarding and waterskiing. Its early manufacturing focused on inboard boats designed for multi-sport use. In 1995, Tige introduced the TAPS (Tige Adjustable Performance System), a transom-mounted plate that altered running attitude and wake formation. This technology became a defining feature of the brand, and remains part of Tige's history.

Tige created a core business model soon after its launch, understanding the core values of Tige. Family-owned freedom, innovation and breaking the status quo, craftsmanship and quality, customer-centred experience, and heritage and culture are the core values which have centred Tige.

Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Tige continued releasing new model lines, including the RZ, Z, and ATX-affiliated platforms. The company integrated electronic ballast systems, digital helm interfaces, and updated surf technologies into its designs. The custom design option is something to be admired, as Tige built customer loyalty around the flexibility and design of their boats. Tige offers over 45,000 different options for customization, making curation for a boat easily accessible.

Tige Boats remains an active manufacturer producing towboats for wakeboarding, wakesurfing, and waterskiing, with ongoing model updates and technology revisions. Expanding to international markets since 1993, retailing in 13 countries.(Charlie Pigeon crafting a Tige boat, 1991)

History of Tige

Technology

Tige Boats incorporates technologies designed to control wake shaping, handling, and user operation. The Convex V hull is a patented curved hull design created to generate natural lift and operate with reduced drag. Its shape works with the TAPS (Tige Adjustable Performance System), plate to form wakes and waves. The Convex V hull creates a deeper running attitude, increasing displacement at lower speeds. This added displacement produces larger, cleaner wakes and longer surf waves without relying solely on ballast weight. The curved hull also enables smoother transitions between wave shapes when combined with TAPS adjustments, providing precise control over wake height and length. These two systems work together, which offers wake surfers a different experience.

TAPS 3T is Tige’s third-generation wake-shaping system. It uses three independently controlled plates. These plates adjust running attitude, surf wave length, wave height, and transfer timing. TAPS 3T operates through hydraulic actuators that respond to preset commands or manual adjustments, and owner settings. TAPS is patented and overall provides a smooth system.

The GO System is an automated control user experience on the Tige dashboard that configures the boat for wakesurfing, wakeboarding, or skiing through a single selection, through the press GO button. When a mode is chosen, the system automatically sets ballast levels, speed control, TAPS 3T angles, and hull attitude to match the selected activity. This creates the desired wake, which was imputed into the settings.

Tige’s onboard technology uses digital touchscreen interfaces, such as the clear or similar helm screens. These interfaces consolidate ballast management, surf system controls, GPS-based speed regulation, engine monitoring, lighting, audio, navigation, and system diagnostics. The screens also store user profiles for repeated settings, which all connect to the GO system and store TAPS 3T data.

Together, these technological systems manage displacement, wake formation, acceleration, and operator control across Tige’s boat models.
