Personal Life[edit]

Career[edit]

Mulhall left College at 18 and joined Co-Operative Retail Services as a Trainee Manager. At 19 he was appointed Manager of the Ottery St Mary, Devon branch, the youngest Store Manager within the group. In 1993 he left to join Prudential Assurance as a Financial Consultant in the companies Taunton Office. In 1994 he qualified for the Companies 'Salute to the Stars' recognition programme as Top Sales person in the branch. [1] Following a serious car accident in 1995, the company offered him a desk based role in their London Head Office. Mulhall's role was to interpret business needs and translate them into requirements which could be developed into computer software programs for managing sales performance. He underwent formal PRINCE Project Management and Change Management training within this role.

Developing those Change Management skills he became an expert in Strategic change - first for Prudential. Then subsequently working within the Financial Services industry for Legal & General and other firms.

OnTracks.co.uk[edit]

Whilst working on his MBA he wrote a paper on 'How to Revolutionise a Traditional industry'. The subject being the supply and presentation of model and hobby products in a way to educate and inform potential purchasers. He choose the increasingly available World Wide Web as the channel to deliver this project. The paper generated feedback from peer review that the ideas could be developed into a workable business. [2] This resulted in 1998, in the creation of one of the earliest successful Internet based Model & Hobby Retailers, OnTracks.co.uk . OnTracks, was headed by his wife Fiona Mulhall .Subsequently, OnTracks won the British Chamber of Commerce, South Wales region award for Best Business on three occasions [3] [4] and the BCC / Microsoft Award for innovation.

In 2007, a chance conversation with the Sales Director at Hornby Railways, resulted in OnTracks being appointed British Distributor for Hornby International. It was in 2008 that Tim began working full time within the couple's Model and Hobby business - leading the growth of the Distribution business. During their five year tenure as Distributors, sales were increased from £32k per annum to £276k per annum. The distribution and wholesale business grew into a stand alone business - Golden Valley Hobbies. In 2012, a new management team at Hornby cancelled the distributorship, intending to distribute the range themselves, although initially sales slumped.

Oxford Diecast[edit]

Meanwhile, a chance meeting had brought together Mulhall and Lyndon Davies, MD and Owner of Oxford Diecast, a manufacturer of collectable model vehicles. At the time, Oxford has secured a BBC TV licence to produce a range of vehicles inspired by the Top Gear TV show. The products were in an advanced stage of development, but Oxford Diecast needed a new sales style to penetrate National and Multiple store retailers. Tim joined the firm to provide this Sales Development capability. As well as developing new accounts and markets, Oxford Diecast went on to develop products for further market - Souvenirs for Merlin Entertainments, Iconic London Figures and vehicles for Hamleys, and eventually their own OO scale model railway range.

Hornby Railways[edit]

The development of an OO model railway range brought the company to the attention of investors of Hornby Railways, who had grown increasingly concerned about the financial performance of the company during the period 2012-2017. In October 2017 Lyndon was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Tim Chief Operating Officer of the larger competitor.[5]
