Time Raiders is a Play-To-Earn / Play-And-Earn game about time travel, which utilizes non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to create unique in-game items such as weapons, vehicles and player characters.

Developed by the UK-based game studio Utopian Game Labs, the game is set to release in Q2 2022. The in-game economy is to be fueled by the token XPENDIUM ($XPND), a cryptocurrency hosted on the Ethereum scaling platform Polygon ($MATIC)[1][2] network.

Gameplay[edit]

Players are supposed to be able to choose characters from a variety of classes, including Gunners, Ninja Monks, Snipers, Heavies, Demolition, Techies and Peaceniks. New players will start with a generic character that is also a NFT, and which they will be able to upgrade and customize over time.

The gameplay is supposed to consist of players doing one level at a time, where they will fight enemies of a variety of different types while looting any items of value they come across. The levels are planned to cumulate in a boss fight, after which players are supposed to have a chance to acquire a facility to produce in-game items.

As the game features the concept of time travel heavily, players are planned to face off against enemies from different eras of history, such as the World Wars, Ancient Rome and Greece, Prehistoric Earth and more, as well as alternate timelines.

In-Game Economy[edit]

According to the game's website, all items in the game are non-fungible tokens that players can trade between each other on the so called Black Market, as well as buying, lending, selling or staking them to gain $XPND tokens. This includes Weapons, Collectibles, Vehicles, and items with special uses. These NFTs are ranked by rarity from Common up to Unique, Extinct and Legendary.

The in-game token XPENDIUM is supposed to be able to facilitate this economy.

Development[edit]

The project website states that the design of the game was finalized in Q4 2021, and that the game development started within the same quarter. Led by Anthony Charlton,[3] Studio Head Simon Bailey and Lead Designer Matt Nagy, the Utopian Game Labs team is aiming for a game release in Q2 2022, according to the Roadmap.
