Timur's Gates
Timur's Gates (Uzbek: Timur Darvaza) are the mountainous passes near Jizzakh, Jizzakh Region, Uzbekistan. They are located on the ancient route from Samarkand to the Gorodnaya Steps, where Tashkent is located.[citation needed] Timur's Gates are at the breaks in the middle of the Zarafshan Range of Uzbekistan, through which Timur (1336 – 1405) went on his eastern expedition to Ming China, but he died during this expedition.[citation needed] Today, the main highway and railway from Tashkent to Samarkand pass through Timur's Gates[1].
