Tivolisaga (Original Swedish Cast Recording) is a musical theatre cast recording of the Swedish musical Tivolisaga ("Carnival Tale"), by Johan Christher Schütz and Johan Pettersson based on Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. The album was released on 17 December 2018 by One Perfect Line Music.[1]
All songs have lyrics by Schütz and music by Schütz and Pettersson, and were originally written for their band Punch and Judy Show[2] and in the musical, the characters Romeo and Juliet have been renamed Punch and Judy.[3] The music is inspired by pop, rock, tango, rumba and Swedish folk music.[4]
In reviews, the melodic quality of the songs were often mentioned. NT wrote that "Schütz has worked miracles with the music"[5]. Folkbladet wrote that "The music is melodic and easy to like" and that "the vocal numbers are powerful".[6] Culture news website Kultursidan especially mentioned the song Jag kommer ingenstans (Ain't Getting Anywhere), saying that it is "a song encompassing an entire life" and that it is a "punch in the guts".[7]
The album was produced by Schütz in his One Perfect Line Music studios, and features Linnéa Källström and Olle Petersson in the lead roles as Judy and Punch, Mathias Blad as Tempest, and Christian Zell as the Priest. Schütz and Pettersson also make brief cameo appearances.[8]
After the release, Källström and Petersson were invited to perform two of the songs live in Swedish radio, along with Johan Petersson; Schütz was not able to participate.[9]
