Tobey Bernard Bartee (born January 17, 1977) was a candidate for the 2018 United States Senate special election in Mississippi. He submitted paperwork to run in April 2018.[1] He is one of two Democrats in the race alongside Mike Espy. Bartee is a former military intelligence officer who is running for office for the first time.[2] He has previous experience at the Department of Defense, the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security and a Masters in Public Policy from Vanderbilt University.
At at event at Millsaps College Bartee said the United States needed to strengthen education to compete internationally.[3] In an interview with WLOX he said that improving healthcare, education and infrastructure required work at the federal and state level to be able to bring jobs to Mississippi.[4] Carrying less than 13,000 votes, he finished last, with a mere 1.4% of the total votes cast.
