Dr. Toby Brooks is an American educator, athletic trainer, researcher, and author. He serves as an Associate Professor in the Master of Athletic Training Program at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) in Lubbock, Texas.[1] He is known for his contributions to sports performance education, athletic training, and faculty development in higher education.[2]

Early life and education

Brooks completed his undergraduate studies in Athletic Training at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He earned both his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Teaching and Teacher Education from the University of Arizona.[2]

Career

Brooks has worked as a certified athletic trainer (ATC) and strength & conditioning coach (CSCS) with professional, collegiate, and high-school athletic programs.[2] At Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, he teaches in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and contributes to outreach and engagement initiatives within the university.[1]

He has also served as a mentor in the TTUHSC Faculty Fellows Program and has been involved in curriculum development and educational innovation related to sports medicine and performance training.

Research and Publications

Dr. Brooks's research focuses on youth sports specialization, exercise interventions to reduce non-contact knee injuries in female athletes, and teaching pedagogy in athletic training.[1] He has authored over a dozen books, more than 20 peer-reviewed journal articles, and over 200 magazine or public-interest articles.[2]

His scholarly and public writing explores the intersection of performance, education, and personal development.

Podcast and Public Engagement

Brooks is the host of the podcast Becoming UnDone: Where High Achievers Turn Setbacks into Comebacks, which shares stories of resilience and recovery among professionals and athletes.[3]

Personal Life

In addition to his academic career, Brooks has founded performance and coaching-related ventures, including NiTROhype, LLC.[1]
