Music Business

Callahan's career in the music industry began as a touring musician. His transition into executive roles saw him taking up positions at prominent Indie labels such as Enigma Records, I.R.S. Records, and Virgin Records. At Virgin, he rose to VP of Adult Formats, leading the radio promotion of major artists, including Lenny Kravitz, Paula Abdul, UB40, and Julia Fordham.[1][2][3]

Callahan has been at the helm of several successful independent ventures in the music industry. In 1992, he founded Callahan & Associates, starting as an independent promotion company and evolving into a full-service entertainment marketing firm. He co-founded Coyote Records and Vellum Entertainment, where he helped numerous artists achieve success. Vellum Entertainment earned a Gold AC Record Label of the Year nomination in 2000.

Callahan played a key role in the rapid growth of Songtradr as a founding member and Chief Customer Officer, establishing it as a leading music licensing and branding platform. Currently, he is the Founder and CEO of Indie Advance, a global hub for independent musicians. This platform aims to support working musicians by offering services ranging from artist development to distribution and marketing strategies, effectively creating a "middle class" for musicians.

Callahan has managed a wide variety of artists through different ventures.[5] At Laurel Canyon Entertainment, he worked with Broadway stars and well-known musicians. With Boulder Entertainment Group, he managed artists like Phoebe Snow and Suzy K. Through Tom Callahan & Associates, Callahan represented talents such as Jeff Timmons, Kaile Goh, Natalia Lesz, Justin Hopkins, and many others, helping them grow their careers with strategic advice and industry connections.[1][2][3]

Callahan provides various consulting services for independent artists. He helps with strategic partnerships and global distribution deals, as well as marketing and promotion through social media, radio, and PR. He offers artist development advice, including legal guidance, deal shopping, and packaging. He also helps build professional teams, connecting artists with booking agents and top lawyers.[3]

Martial Arts

Callahan has been passionate about martial arts for 40 years. He is a respected Kyokushin Karate instructor, holding a 6th dan rank and the title of Kyoshi Shihan. He serves as the Vice-Chairman for All Americas and the International Committee Secretary for Kyokushin-Kan Karate International. He travels the world to teach and lead seminars, earning recognition for his expertise and dedication to the principles of Kyokushin Karate.[1]

Callahan offers top-notch Kyokushin Karate instruction and seminars, covering advanced techniques and kata. He also educates on the philosophical aspects of Budo and its practical use in everyday life.

Callahan leads World Budo Arts, combining his passion for education and expertise in diverse fields.

Education and mentorship

Callahan commits himself to coaching and educating people outside of work. Through initiatives like Techstars LA and Canopy Boulder, he provides advice to companies and entrepreneurs in the music, tech, and cannabis industries. Along with sharing his expertise, he lectures and hosts podcasts where he talks about tech developments, martial arts philosophy, and insights from the music industry.[6]
