Tom Kealey (Idaho)

Tom Kealey is Director of the Idaho Department of Commerce, having been appointed by Governor Brad Little in December 2018.

Early life, education, and personal life[edit]

Kealey holds an accounting and finance degree from the University of Washington and a master’s in business administration from Harvard University.[1] He is a former Morrison-Knudsen executive and co-owner of Chicago Connection, operating seven restaurants with his wife, Joy.[2]

Political Career[edit]

Kealey served for more than 14 years on the Idaho Endowment Fund Investment Board. He ran unsuccessfully in the May 2018 Republican primary for state treasurer, coming in second place to current Idaho Treasurer Julie Ellsworth.[3]

Governor Brad Little appointed Kealey to his cabinet as Director of the Idaho Department of Commerce.[4] In this capacity, Kealey leads the state’s efforts to foster a business friendly environment to aid in job creation, support existing companies, strengthen communities, and market Idaho.[weasel words] Kealey is leading the Governor’s broadband taskforce which aims to improve the state’s broadband infrastructure.[5]
