Tom Moutchi[edit]

Tom Moutchi (born 29 December 1992) is a theatre, film and television actor, represented by Peter Bennett-Jones talent agency PBJ Management. He currently stars in new hit sketch show Famalam [1][1], which debuted 9 April 2018 on BBC Three & BBC Two.

Early Life[edit]

Tom Moutchi, full name Obray Ammond Tom Jeffrey Moutchi was born in Coté D’ivore (Ivory Coast). His father Velingban Moutchi was a History teacher as well as a politician for Ivorian Popular Front (FPI). Tom’s biological mum, Aminatta Soumahorro was Market merchant in Ivorian city, Man. Tom never knew his mum for a large majority of his life. Velingban left Coté D’ivore and headed to London with Tom to give him a better life. Velingban married Victorine Moutchi in 2006 and had two kids, Alenzie and Anais. Tom attended Oliver Goldsmith primary school in London, Camberwell. It was at this school his did his first ever play at the Blue Elephant theatre. In Tom’s teens he attended Walworth School, he graduated with excellent grades, 9 A-B GCSE’s. Toms favourite classes were English and drama & Religious studies. In 2009 Tom headed to St Charles Sixth Form college where he studied, Maths, physics, chemistry & economics A level. He failed terribly and got kicked out of the sixth form. Victorine, Toms stepmom forced him to enrol at Lambeth college, which he did. He then graduated after two years with a BTEC qualification in Biomedical science. Tom wasn’t very sure if his qualification was in the field he wanted to make a career out of as he wanted to be an actor. He then searched for a drama degree with the qualifications of a biomedical scientist. Luckily the head of Drama at CCU (Canterbury Christ Church) felt pity and let him on the course. Tom enrolled in September and dropped out by December, he felt he was being taught how to become a drama teacher as opposed to how to act.

Career[edit]

Around the same time that Tom dropped out of university, Instagram released a feature where user could upload videos. Tom used this as an opportunity to promote his skills as and actor/comic, he was getting very popular and gaining followers in the thousands [2]. Tom dropped out of university in 2013 December after only 3 months of attending and focused on his comedy online persona “Tommy Xpensive”. His parents weren’t very happy about his decisions and kicked him out of their house. He stayed with his cousin on his stepmoms side of the family, Barroce Adiko. Tom signed with a boutique talent agency called Hoxton Street management, they got him his very first every short film on Channel 4's Random acts[2] called "Balance" directed by Rankin. Between the 2014-2016 period Tom became the leading Black viner in the Uk, gaining millions of views, collaborations with Omarion[3], Will.i.am[4], Chipmunk,[5] Wretch 32, Tinchy Stryder[6]. Tom's videos were so popular that Screen Nation Awards nominated him as Favourite online comedian in their yearly Screen Nation Digital-iS Media Awards[7]. He also made Channel 4's Rude Tube as number 39 on the top 50 most viral videos on the internet [8]During drama school Tom met Lord Michael Hastings who mentored him and taught him about Jesus and offered to sponsor him to go to drama school. Tom felt it was his time to pursue acting as a whole and leave online content behind(2016). So with the help of Lord Hastings, Tom enrolled to Identity Drama school founded by Femi oguns. During his time at drama school Tom worked at a Costa attached to a Odeon cinema in North Greenwich, this job allowed him to move out of his cousins house and move into his own place in Catford, London. While working at costa, he fell in love with how many people flocked in to watch the big blockbuster movies. He one day hoped he’ll be able to make people leave their houses to come and see him on the big screen.

January 2017, Tom gets a chance to be in a writers room for a new BBC sketch show pilot. This opportunity occurred when writer Jon Macqueen watched one of Tom's twitter videos and wanted to see more but spotted that he stopped his online content to focus more on acting. Jon suggested Tom to the producers [3] because he thought Tom's comic flame should not be extinguished. This then materialises into BBC commissioning him to write on the pilot and casting him to also act in the show, (FAMALAM PILOT, 2017). The show goes to pilot in September (2017)on BBC Two and was the most watched thing on UK television the night it aired. Famalam the show to be commissioned for a whole series. In the same year Tom did a play at The Park Theatre in Finsbury Park, called Twistorm. Tom played a Child soldier all grown up with some dark secrets in Twistorm. He acted alongside some seasoned actors; Jason Merrels, Claire Goose, Justin Edwards. One of the reviews for the play was “Tom Moutchi steals the show” this was Tom’s first official theatre credit. This led Tom to be signed by PBJ.  Later on that year (2017) Tom was casted in The Hustle (2019), produced by Rebel Wilson and starring Anne Hathaway. Tom plays a french rapper "Lil Baguette" in MGM's remake of Dirty rotten scoundrels.
