Appearances[edit]
Halloween[edit]
Tommy Doyle was an eight-year-old child when the events of the first Halloween film took place. He was often babysat by Laurie Strode and ran into her on his way to school to ask questions about their plans for Halloween Night. They come across the old Myers house where Michael Myers murdered his sister Judith, Laurie had gone there to drop off a key, which scared Tommy due to things he had been told by school bully Lonnie Elamb. Tommy is next seen being bullied by Lonnie and his friends saying that "The Boogeyman" was going to get him. He was then stalked by Michael Myers without his notice as he walked home. That night, Tommy asked for consolation from Laurie about the existence of The Boogeyman, as they watched scary movies together. Tommy was eventually joined by Lindsay Wallace as Annie Brackett had grown bored of babysitting her, which resulted in her death at the hands of Myers. Tommy then sees Myers through the window at the Wallace's house and tells Laurie. Though sceptical, Laurie heads over to the house to check on Annie, her friend Lynda Van Der Klok, and Lynda's boyfriend Bob Simms, where she is attacked by Myers. Laurie rushes back to the house to tell Tommy and Lindsay to hide. Tommy and Lindsay went to hide upstairs and remained there until being ordered by Laurie to run to the Mackenzie's house and ask for help, which attracted the attention of Dr. Sam Loomis which led to them ending Myers's rampage.
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers[edit]
Tommy returns briefly in Halloween 4: Return of Michael Myers and is shown as being friends with Rachel Carruthers's boyfriend, Brady, and his friend Wade. Tommy is seen in the Vincent Drug Store where Brady worked, betting that Wade wouldn't be able to ask out the sheriff's daughter, Kelly Meeker. To which Wade was subsequently rejected by Kelly. Following the disappearance of Jamie Lloyd and Myers, Tommy became dangerously obsessed with the Myers family legacy.
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers[edit]
Tommy's next appearance in Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, shows him as a deeply disturbed 25-year-old who is obsessed with Michael Myers. Tommy had grown to believe that Myers's obsession with killing his family members was related to "The Curse of Thorn". Tommy was eventually called onto Barry Simms's radio show where he hears Jamie Lloyd's call for help for Dr Loomis. Tommy begins following clues searching for Jamie and even adopted a child along the way which he named Steven. During his search for the remaining Strodes, coming across Kara and Danny Strode. They return to Tommy's house where they reunite with Dr. Loomis, and discover Barry Simms's body. They run from Myers when they discover Terence Wynn, who drugs Tommy and Loomis and takes Kara, Danny and Steven. They discover that the others had been taken to Smith's Grove Sanitarium. Tommy then hears a mental patient stating that Myers was back. Tommy eventually finds where Kara was being held and rescues her. They find the children being held by Smith's Grove doctors, who are each individually dispatched by Myers. While Myers is murdering the doctors, Tommy and Kara escape with the children. As they hide, Tommy comes up with a plan to trick Michael, which backfires and nearly causes Steven's death. Until Tommy tranquilises Michael and attacked him with a lead pipe. Tommy, Kara, Danny and Steven escape and offer for Dr. Loomis to come with them, who states he has unfinished business inside and motions for them to drive off.
Reception[edit]
Tommy Doyle is one of the few recurring protagonists in the Halloween franchise, along with Laurie Strode, Dr. Sam Loomis and Jamie Lloyd. Tommy was also one of the only four survivors of Michael Myers's first rampage in Haddonfield, along with Laurie, Loomis and Lindsey Wallace.
Tommy's portrayal by Paul Rudd in The Curse of Michael Myers was seen as one of the few highlights of the film, as well as Donald Pleasence's final portrayal of Dr. Sam Loomis. Anthony Michael Hall's casting in the sequel Halloween Kills was met with a negative reception from some fans of the series, who had hoped for Brian Andrews to return to the franchise.[4] This was further compounded after Kyle Richards was announced to reprise her role as Lindsey Wallace from the original.[5]
