Tommy Thrall is an American sportscaster, serving as the play-by-play radio announcer for the Cincinatti Reds on the Cincinnati Reds Radio Network and 700 WLW since 2020.[1]

Early Life and Career[edit]

Thrall grew up in Smithville, Missouri. His first stint as a broadcaster came as a senior at Smithville (Mo.), High School, covering the school's basketball team.[2] Thrall graduated with a Broadcasting degree at Northwest Missouri State in 2006[3], serving as the play-by-play voice for the Bearcats baseball team for Nothwest Missouri State's campus radio station KZLX-LP from 2004-06 and covering multiple sports.[4][5]

After college, Thrall broadcast for the independent Northern League Kansas City T-Bones from 2007 to 2008, before moving into the Minor Leagues as a broadcaster for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in 2009[3]. He was hired in 2012 as the inaugural voice of the then-Reds Double-A affiliate Pensacola Blue Wahoos in 2017-18[6].

Cincinnati Reds[edit]

Thrall joined the Reds radio booth for six games at the end of the 2018 season. He alternated broadcasts with retiring play-by-play voice Marty Brennaman the following year before taking over exclusively in 2020.[7] Thrall made his official regular-season debut as the Reds' full-time radio broadcaster on July 24, 2020, a 7-1 opening day win over the 2020 Detroit Tigers season at home.[8]

In addition to his play-by-play duties, Thrall hosts a weekly offseason show on the Reds Radio Network, "Reds Hot Stove league."[9]
