Toni Cornell (September 18, 2004) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and the daughter of late musician Chris Cornell.[1]

Early Life[edit]

Toni Cornell was born on September 18, 2004 to parents Vicky Karayiannis and Chris Cornell[2]

Musical Career[edit]

Toni released her first single titled “Far Away Places," produced and recorded by her father, Chris Cornell, at their home studio in Miami, Florida in February 2017, three months before he died by suicide at age 52.[1] She appeared later that year on Good Morning America to sing Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” with One Republic frontman Ryan Tedder to pay homage to her late father and his close friend Chester Bennington. [3] On Father's Day of 2018, Toni released a duet cover of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U" featuring Chris Cornell. [4] She then donated $20,000 of the proceeds from the song to International Rescue Committee in March of 2020. [5] In January of 2019, at her father's tribute show, Toni sang a cover of Bob Marley and the Wailer's "Redemption Song" alongside Ziggy Marley. [6] This was a song she had originally performed with her late father in 2015 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City at the age of eleven. [7] On April 19, 2020 Toni performed a cover of "Hunger Strike" by Temple of the Dog for a COVID-19 relief fundraiser live-stream on LiveXLive. [8]

Personal Life[edit]

On Father's Day of 2020 during an Instagram takeover of Billboard's page, Toni discussed her close relationship with her father saying, "I’m so grateful that I was lucky enough to have a dad who was also my best friend. Music was our life, so it really created a special bond between the two of us, even when we weren’t on the road. Here in this studio, he taught me how to play the guitar, how to record songs.”[9]
