Tony Gosling is a British investigative journalist, historian, land rights activist, and broadcaster.[2][3] He has worked for the BBC and BCfm and contributed to BBC One, Channel1 Russia, Press TV and RT International.[4][5]
Education
Gosling studied at the Ilkley College of Education, Bradford University.[2]
Personal life
In early 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he became stranded in New Zealand after spending £5,000 on cancelled flights.[6] He had gone on a visit to his family in Auckland in February when he found himself unable to return due to coronavirus restrictions in March. On 24 April, it was reported that he had returned.[1]
Career and activism
Gosling has reported for more than two decades on geopolitics, intelligence, international affairs, and financial power structures.[3] He has been an advocate for free housing and the freedom of the press.[7]
He started his career in the aviation industry and moved to journalism by receiving training at the BBC.[3][7] He worked there from 1989 to 1993.[4]
By 2019, he had been the producer and presenter for The Tony Gosling Politics at BCfm radio for 11 years. On 31 January 2019, Ofcom launched an investigation into his show after a complaint filed by UKLFI CEO Jonathon Turner.[4][8] BCfm radio was cleared in March; however, by September 2020, it had taken the show off air to avoid putting its license at risk during the pandemic and becoming "the burden of a potential Ofcom complaint."[4][9][10]
Gosling later started the podcast Not the BCFM Politics Show, which had been active as of September 2025.[11][12]
Political views
British foreign policy
Gosling has questioned the equality of the US and Britain in their Special Relationship, implying that their military, intelligence, and legal ties have left the latter "structurally dependent" on the former.[13]
COVID-19 pandemic
In 2021, Gosling was among a group of 30 journalists who objected to "censorship" and "fearmongering" about the pandemic on the part of media and tech giants. They alleged that attempts by reporters to present narratives that contradict the official one had led to reporters facing scrutiny from their management, freelancers being blacklisted, and the public being provided a "distorted view of the truth." However, Fiona Fox of the Science Media Centre denied their claims, calling the coverage of the pandemic by the media "exemplary" and "something about which the science and health correspondents should be celebrated for some time to come."[14]
Iran war
Gosling has described the US strikes on Iran as unlawful and has warned against a lack of accountability in the matter, stating that it could lead to further confrontation. He has linked the broader crisis in the Middle East to Israel's actions in Gaza and argued that a lack of accountability for US actions in Iran and Israeli actions in Gaza could encourage similar conduct elsewhere.[5]
He has also questioned whether the US can achieve its political goals in Iran, while still conceding that it has the capacity to inflict massive military and economic damage on its adversaries.[15]
Israel
Gosling has argued that Israel has been facing increasing levels of international criticism following the war on Gaza. While noting that Israel is not isolated in the diplomatic sense, he has stated that it has been facing unprecedented levels of scrutiny.[16]
Saudi Arabia
Gosling has described Saudi Arabia as a "dictatorship" which has "betrayed" Islam and Muslims by allying with Israel. He has deemed the British Empire to be responsible for the creation of the kingdom and its subsequent "crimes".[17]
