From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

2005-2006, main office of Topaz plant, Donetsk

Topaz was an enterprise in Donetsk that specialized in the development and production of complex radio systems and complexes, including unique long-range radio reconnaissance and early warning systems for air defense systems, including the Kolchuga radio reconnaissance station.[1] It was stolen by Russia backed terrorists and moved to Russia right after the beginning of Russo-Ukraininan war in 2014.[2][3][4] Topaz is a part of the state holding Ukroboronprom.[5]

Since the beginning of the Russian military aggression, the production of some models of Kolchuga equipment of Topaz has been transferred to Iskra in Zaporizhzhia[6][7], while some radiolocation equipment was sent to Kyiv.[8]

History and characteristics of the plant[edit]

The holding includes JSC "Topaz", founded on October 10, 1974, and JSC "Special Design Bureau of Radio Devices", founded in 1987.[9]

During the existence of Topaz State Joint-Stock Company, joint contracts have been concluded with foreign enterprises, in particular the Russian Federation, the People's Republic of China, Latvia, Germany, Malaysia, Ethiopia, Turkmenistan, and Turkey.[10]

On 18 December, 2002, Topaz" was awarded the "Order of Honor" of the International Personnel Academy of Ukraine for its contribution to the development of Ukraine's economy.[11]

With the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the plant found itself in the territory occupied by Russian terrorists. The company's staff managed to evacuate the ready-made Kolchuga complex manufactured in the interests of a foreign customer. However, the Russian militants managed to seize and take out the Mandate complex created at the enterprise.[12] 50 employees of the plant together with their families move to Russia.[13][14]

Part of the team together with the evacuated technical documentation was able to go to Zaporizhia and resume production at the facilities of Iskra.

In 2014, Ukrainian state officials declared, that the Russian KAMAZ trucks have been loaded with Topaz equipment and went to Russia with it.[15]

In August 2016, by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the plant was reassigned from the Department of Economic Development to Ukroboronprom.[16]
