Toroban is a puzzle video game developed and published by Hebert Games LLC. It was released on Steam on December 1, 2025.[1] The game is built around Sokoban-style block-pushing puzzles played on spaces whose edges wrap around, and it uses a nonlinear overworld connecting multiple puzzle areas.[1][2]
Gameplay
Toroban describes its central mechanic as an "infinitely wrapping" puzzle system. Puzzle areas use toroidal layouts, allowing characters and objects that cross one edge of a puzzle to re-enter from another.[1] The game is organized around a nonlinear overworld containing several themed regions. These include Grass, which introduces blocks, buttons, and gates; Ruins, where objects can be transferred between puzzle regions and the overworld; Snow, which introduces blocks that offset the alignment of the wrapping grid; Fall, which introduces puzzles involving multiple player characters called "toros"; Desert, which combines earlier mechanics; and Cosmic, an advanced endgame region.[1]
The game launched with 270 solvable puzzles. As of 2026, the Steam store page continued to describe the final Cosmic endgame area as under development.[1]
Development
Toroban was developed and self-published by Hebert Games LLC.[1] The in-game credits credit Eric Hébert as "Game By"; Maria M. Movsheva for art, UI design, and additional UI programming; Miles Combs for music, sounds, and additional audio programming; and James Guan for playtesting and Startup House.[3]
Development continued after the commercial release. In June 2026, Hebert Games released the "Floating Toros Update", which changed the behavior of the player characters and other gameplay details; the Steam page also continued to identify the Cosmic area as under development.[1]
Exhibitions and reception
As of September 2026, Steam categorized the game's user reviews as "Very Positive", with 86% of 60 reviews being positive.[1]
Toroban was selected for the MAGFest Indie Videogame Showcase at Super MAGFest 2025.[4] It was also featured in the 2026 MAGFest Indie Videogame Showcase under Hebert Games LLC.[5]
The game was exhibited at PAX East 2026. In coverage of the convention, Andrew Reynolds of Room Escape Artist included Toroban among the event's notable games, describing the booth as having unusually strong enthusiasm and highlighting the game's borderless block-pushing mechanic, nonlinear overworld, and progressively introduced biome mechanics.[6]
