Torsus is a vehicle manufacturer (OEM) that specialises in the design, manufacture and distribution of heavy duty off road vehicles. Their vehicle models include the Praetorian, a purpose-built heavy duty off-road bus.
The Torsus marque is a globally registered, trademark brand owned by parent company, Pulsar Expo s.r.o., who’s main business focus is the modification and sales of vehicles for special purposes and the provision of international technical aid for international and government organisations. Headquartered in Prague in the Czech Republic, they have their Research and Development and manufacturing facilities based in Bratislava, Slovakia.
History
Torsus was founded in 2016, with international trademark registration approved in early 2018. They began the design of their first vehicle, the Praetorian, in the December of 2016, with the first prototype vehicles rolling off their production line in April 2018.
The Praetorian was developed to provide a mass transport solution in an off-road environment, particularly for heavy industries such as mining and quarrying as well as for military applications. Torsus applied for European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval (ECWVTA), but with no existing suitable vehicle category, they submitted a request to implement an entire new vehicle category for that of Off Road Bus. Due to this, Torsus make the claim of the Praetorian being the world’s first off road bus.
Torsus Praetorian
The Praetorian was designed specifically for the transportation of personnel and equipment in rough terrain. Based on a MAN Rheinmetall TGM chassis and incorporating a MAN D0836LFL40 6.9 ltr diesel engine as its power unit, the main body and mounting system is designed and made by Torsus. In 2017, Torsus entered into an agreement with MAN Truck and Bus division, to use the MAN global support network for the provision of parts, spares and service to its customers world-wide.
The Torsus Praetorian is a notable addition to the off-road vehicle sector due to its seating capacity for up to 35 passengers (including driver). In addition, its design makes it adaptable for multi-use applications and Torsus have made design options beyond the standard passenger model, including designs for an ambulance, luxury ski bus, special military communications and surveillance models and a Camper / RV model.
