The Town & District Transport Trust[1] (TDTT) is a transport museum, vehicle preservation and restoration group and storage company based in Great Harwood, near Accrington, Lancashire. The Trust was founded in September 2017 and now operates a central preservation collection of over twenty vehicles, with more privately owned buses stored on site.

The Trust operated from former industrial premises off Cambridge Street in Great Harwood, next to a used car sales centre, where secure indoor storage is provided for vehicle types mainly consisting of privately owned preserved buses but also including trucks, cars, vans, caravans, boats and tanks.[2] Additionally, TDTT maintain their own collection of preserved buses, which are stored, maintained, restored and repainted on site. Xx

History[edit]

The origins of TDTT lie in a split within the Keighley Bus Museum Trust (KBMT). Unsatisfied with how KBMT was being operated, and following a breakdown of relations, a number of bus preservationists broke away and founded the Town & District Transport Trust Ltd., which was first incorporated as a company on 12 September 2017. Shortly afterwards, a former industrial warehouse off Cambridge Street in Great Harwood, Lancashire was acquired as the company's main site.

TDTT held their first annual open day event, the Great Harwood Rally, on 16 September 2018. The depot building was opened up to the public, with vehicles in various states of restoration on display as well as industry stalls provided. Additionally, the car park of an office company on nearby Alan Ramsbottom Way was hired as a showground for a collection of preserved vehicles displayed by other preservation groups and private individuals from across northern England, and free bus rides using preserved buses were operated on several routes around the Accrington area.[3]

Events[edit]

TDTT hold an annual open day, the Great Harwood Rally, during which the depot building is open to the public, preserved vehicles are displayed, sales stalls are held and bus rides around the local area are provided. A wide selection of preserved vehicles are displayed on a site on Alan Ramsbottom Way, around a two minute walk from the Trust's main depot building. The first open day was held on Sunday 16 September 2018, and they are scheduled annually for the third Sunday in September (the date formerly occupied in the British bus events calendar by Showbus, before its move to the last Sunday of the month from 2017).

The second annual rally is scheduled to be held on Sunday 15 September 2019. From the 2019 event, it is set to be renamed the Iain Bonner Memorial Great Harwood Rally in memory of one of the founding members of the Trust who passed away at the end of 2018.

TDTT collection[edit]

As of January 2019, the central TDTT preservation collection consists of the following vehicles:

Additionally, preserved vehicles held in private ownerships and not part of the centrally-owned collection are also stored on site for a monthly storage fee.
