Toybox was a UK children's magazine, first published by BBC Children's Magazines (as part of BBC Enterprises) in March 1993, featuring characters from British pre-school television programmes. The magazine typically featured stories, puzzles, and activities aimed at the 2 to 7 age group.[1]. Each issue included content that linked with Key Stage 1 of the National Curriculum.
Programmes appearing in Toybox included Pingu, Fireman Sam, Noddy, Oakie Doke, Teletubbies, The Tweenies, Postman Pat and Fimbles. From 2002, the magazine was closely linked with CBeebies, with the channel's logo appearing on the cover. A weekly CBeebies magazine was launched in 2006[2] and continues to this day.
A special edition of the magazine was released in December 1999, entitled Toybox Classics, which featured 'timeless children's favourites' such as Bagpuss, Mr Benn, Camberwick Green and Ivor the Engine.
The Toybox brand also appeared in a series of VHS videos released by BBC Video, as well as computer games, story books and hardback annuals. A sister title, 'Toybox: Teach Me' was launched in October 2001[3]
