Tracy Celebrates Children is an annual community event in Tracy, California that provides free activities for children through partnerships with local businesses and organizations, in honor of the late Sandra Cantu; who was the victim of a murder case that made national headlines in 2009[4]. The event was originally launched in 2011 as Celebrating Tracy’s Children[5] by Janet Anderson, a local realtor and relative of Sandra Cantu. The event fosters a day of fun and learning while emphasizing community engagement and remembrance.

History

The first Tracy Celebrates Children event took place on March 8, 2011[6], featuring a modest schedule where local businesses offered free activities for families. Anderson, with support from Sandra Cantu’s family and friends, started the event as a way to bring the community together and create positive experiences for children.

In 2020, Anderson passed leadership of the event to Sow A Seed Foundation[7], a nonprofit organization based in Tracy. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was put on hold.

In 2024, Jake Hallen, a local event organizer, worked with Anderson to revive Tracy Celebrates Children. The event was officially scheduled to return on March 10, 2025, with Hallen taking on the role of event organizer.

Activities

The event features a variety of free activities designed and hosted by local businesses, community groups, and entertainers. Participants create unique experiences that highlight their industry, from arts and crafts workshops to live performances and interactive exhibits. The activities are scheduled throughout the day, giving families multiple opportunities to engage and explore.

Community Impact

Since its inception, Tracy Celebrates Children has drawn hundreds of attendees annually. Over the years, the event has expanded, offering a larger variety of activities and increased community participation. It remains a cornerstone of Tracy’s local events, providing children with meaningful experiences while fostering a strong sense of community.
