The Traditional Youth Marching Bands Association (TYMBA) is an organization related to marching bands in the United Kingdom.

TYMBA was formed in 1983 by a few like-minded friends who felt there was a need for an organisation to cater specifically for youth bands, which project a traditional British image and adopt a British military style of drill. The organisation set up a number of contests across the UK to allow traditional style youth bands to compete. The first National TYMBA band contest was held in Cannock, Staffordshire in 1991 with bands travelling from across the country to take part. The Hornchurch Drum and Trumpet Corps took 1st place in the National Class and therefore became the first TYMBA National Champions. Although there remains a small competition circuit within TYMBA and bands still have opportunities to compete, there is now a greater focus and emphasis on networking, training and support for all bands within the membership, through a series of online and face to face events, in-house led and with support from the military.

Objectives[edit]

  • To advance the education and training of young people and their leaders in all aspects of traditional banding.
  • To stimulate public awareness, appreciation and enjoyment of traditional banding.
  • To bring together member bands and undertake the performance of marching band music for the enjoyment of the public.

For more than 30 years TYMBA has been the home of the traditional youth marching band movement across the UK. Through training, competitions and other events we work to advance the education of young people through music.

Organizational structure[edit]

A Management Committee is elected annually to manage the affairs of TYMBA. The committee meet regularly and welcome feedback, ideas and comments from its member bands and individuals.
