Tramp is an American musician/recording artist/songwriter/singer. Born as Michael Halpin Lawing on March 15, 1965 in Charlotte, NC. Currently alive and living in Henderson, KY. He started playing music in Kingsport, TN by going around with his Mother (a folk musician named Anne Lawing) to various jams while also learning Suzuki Method violin. The family moved to Atlanta, GA in 1976 where he stopped classical training and began taking lessons from GA Music Hall of Fame member, Dallas Burrell. He won Champion Old-Time Fiddler - Jr. Division at Fiddler's Grove Fiddler's Festival in Union Grove, NC in 1980. The "Tramp" stage name came about when he was living and playing at a biker bar in Tucker, GA called "The Alibi". He moved from Atlanta to Nashville in December of 1984.
Tramp was a member of Walk the West (Capitol Records), The Cactus Brothers (Liberty/Capitol Nashville) and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonepony , (Capitol Records, Super Duper Recordings). He also did Sideman/Session work with The Kendalls, Lucinda Williams, Hank Williams Jr., Kevn Kinney, Deana Carter, Hayseed, Jessie Mae Hemphill, Doug Dillard, The Shakers and others.[1][2]
