Tranebergssund or the Tranebergssund strait is a stretch of water separating Traneberg and Kungsholmen.[1] The depth can vary anywhere from 16 meters (52 ft) to 19 meters (62 ft).[2]
Geography
North of the strait is Ulvsundasjön, to the east is Kristineberg and Fredhäll. The district of Kungsholmen and the western suburb Bromma are joined by the Tranebergsbron bridge across the Tranebergssund Strait.
In the west part of Kristineberg, Stockholm on the slope facing Tranebergssund, is Kungsholmen's only naturally growing deciduous forest.[3]
The strait can supply water to Ulvsundasjön and Bällstaviken during high water levels in Lake Mälaren.[4]
History
King Gustav III (1746–1792) set out to construct a road from the city to the palace at Drottningholm Palace, the first bridge at this location was a floating bridge finished in 1787.[5]
The strait used to be home to a tram In the early 1950s[5] the tramway was later converted into a Tunnelrail.[5]
Recreation
Three boat clubs, Kristinebergs båtklubb (KBK)[6] Stockholms Segelsällskap (SSK),[7] and Stockholms Segelsällskap (SSS), are located in the strait.[8]
