Transition (aviation)
From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki
Transition is a common term in aviation; it may indicate several distinct things:
- In IFR flight, it means transitioning from en-route procedures to an instrument approach for the destination aerodrome;
- In VTOL aircraft, it is the shift from vertical (e.g. at takeoff) to horizontal flight;
- In helicopter flight it refers to the transition or translation from hovering flight to forward flight through translational lift.
- Transition altitude is the switchover between altitudes where a local altimeter setting is used and standard pressure flight levels.
