Traska is an American-based microbrand watch designer company based in Jacksonville, Florida.[1] Founded in 2018 by Jon Mack after a successful Kickstarter campaign.[2] Traska currently produces four watch styles (Venturer, Commuter, Summiteer and Freediver) in limited releases throughout the year. The company is notable within the wristwatch industry for its proprietary scratch-resistant coating applied to the case and bracelet.
History
Jon Mack was a collector of vintage watches but found that they were too fragile for everyday use. He specifically references a time he destroyed a 1966 Bulova Snorkel watch after accidentally wearing it in the ocean. After this incident he decided to design his own watch and sell it to the public, in order to fund his project he used Kickstarter to raise capital and collect preorders.[3] After the Kickstarter went live with the idea for their first watch, the Freediver, on April 17, 2018, they doubled their $25,000 goal in two days. At the end of the Kickstarter funding period on May 17, 2018, the company had raised $61,000.
Products
All watches are built using Japanese Miyota internal movements and a proprietary scratch-resistant coating on the case and bracelet.
Venturer
Launched in 2021, the Venturer is an automatic diving watch with an internal rotating bezel that comes in 4 color options.[4]
Commuter
An automatic sports watch in 4 color options.[4]
Summiteer
The second watch released by Traska, the Summiteer is a classic automatic sports watch. Like the Freediver, the Summiteer was crowdsourced via Kickstarter and raised $125,000 in October 2019.[4]
Freediver
The first watch released by Traska, which was funded by Kickstarter. The watch features an externally rotating bezel and is water resistant up to 200 meters.[4]
