Tony Cornell Whitfield Jr. (born September 26, 1998), known professionally as Treezo LaFlame, is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer from Benton Harbor, Michigan. He is recognized most for his introspective lyricism and a signature "dreary" sonic aesthetic that blends elements of the Detroit and Chicago underground hip-hop scenes. After gaining local traction with his debut mixtape God Don’t Like Ugly (2023), Tony expanded his catalog with the projects Star Child and 27 (2025), amassing a dedicated cult following.
Early Life
Tony was born and raised on the west side of Benton Harbor, Michigan. He is the son of Tony Whitfield Sr. and Katrina Cross. Following his parents' separation early in his life, Tony was primarily raised by his mother as an only child for eight years. Despite this, his father remained an active presence, offering guidance throughout his life.
His great aunt, Jenny, provided significant financial stability and exposure to travel during his youth. Tony credits this upbringing for fostering his early creativity, as the lack of financial worry allowed him to focus on his interests.
Tony’s interest in music developed later than many of his peers; he cites Bone Crusher’s "Never Scared" as his earliest musical memory. His official immersion into hip-hop culture began around 2008, influenced by his stepfather’s home studio and exposure to Lil Wayne’s The Carter III. During his years at Countryside Academy, Tony funded his interest in music by selling candy and miscellaneous goods to classmates to afford vinyl and CDs. He cites a diverse array of influences ranging from DMX, Kendrick Lamar, and Kanye West to contemporary underground figures like Lucki and Lil B.

2018–2023: Early beginnings and God Don’t Like Ugly
Before pursuing music, Tony aspired to be an entrepreneur, planning a fashion brand titled “MudBoy” (named after the Sheck Wes album). He eventually redirected his focus to recording after encouragement from friends. His early work served as an outlet for processing romantic heartbreaks and personal pain.
Tony officially began his career in late 2018. In 2019, he released his debut single, "K1LL SW17CH", featuring ThirtyBucks, on SoundCloud. In September 2023, he signed with KZProductions, an independent label founded by producer Duvarce "BeatsbyKZ" Kazee. Under this imprint, he released his debut mixtape, God Don’t Like Ugly. The project featured the singles "Bopmatica" and "Sweetheart." The mixtape’s local impact was further cemented by a "chopped and screwed" remix produced by DJ Pousa of the 1017Chopz collective.
2025–Present: Star Child and 27
In 2025, Tony released the projects Star Child and 27. These works marked a shift toward more sophisticated production and personal subject matter. Critics noted his evolution toward a more "melodic" and "cognizant" style, focusing heavily on self-reflection and the complexities of interpersonal relationships.
