Trenches - World War 1 Horror Survival Game
Trenches is a first-person survival horror video game developed and published by Steelkrill Studio. The game revolves going inside the mind and eyes of a WW1 soldier stuck in the Trenches, James R. Johnson, with the task to escape using only your hearing and trench whistle as a guide. You can use your trench whistle and hear a sound to escape the trenches, but the enemy can also hear the whistle too.
Trenches received positive reviews, with praise for its atmosphere, horror elements, jumpscares and gameplay. Most of the negative reviews are about the jumpscares, as the game have way too many jumpscares in it. The game is also still in Early Access as of 2021 and it's being made by only one solo developer.
Trenches was released as Early Access for Microsoft Windows on July 19, 2021.
Gameplay[edit]
The game relies on sounds and hearing, as you are equipped with a 'Trench Whistle' which you can use. When it's used, it will play a sound and you need to follow the sound, however - you have to be careful as the enemy can hear the whistle too and it can give out your position easily. A HARDCORE objective-finding type first-person psychological horror survival game experience about finding and collecting clues with the goal to escape the Trenches, with gut-wrecking moments and different clue locations with repeatability option.
