Trident Group
Trident Limited (NSE: TRIDENT; BSE: 521064) is the flagship Company of Trident Group, a USD 3 billion Indian business conglomerate and a global player. Headquartered in Ludhiana, Punjab, Trident Limited is a vertically integrated textile (Yarn, Bath & Bed Linen) and Paper (Wheat Straw-based) manufacturer and is one of the largest players in Home Textile Space in India[1]. Supplying national, captive, and retailer-owned brands, the organization is highly decorated with awards from its customers, vendors, and various government entities in recognition of advancing the highest standards in product quality, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship. The Company operates in two major business segments: Textiles and Paper with its manufacturing facilities located in Punjab and Madhya Pradesh.
History
Trident Limited, previously Abhishek Industries Limited started its operations in 1985 with a single super phosphate plant in Sanghera, Punjab. In 1993, the company forayed into yarn manufacturing with a solitary yarn making unit in Sanghera, Punjab and paper manufacturing[2].
The company’s manufacturing facilities are located at Sanghera, Dhaula in Punjab and Budhni in Madhya Pradesh, India. Trident caters to a customer base of over 150 countries with its varied product range. Textile manufacturing operations are carried out at three locations, Sanghera, Dhaula, and Budhni across Punjab and Madhya Pradesh[3]. On the other hand, the Paper and Chemical division are based out of Dhaula, Punjab.
Acquisitions/Mergers
1990-2000
In 1990, the company was established and popularly came to be known as Abhishek Spinfab Corporation Limited. In 1993, the first yarn spinning unit was set up. In 1998, the company expanded its business to home textiles by commissioning a bath linen manufacturing facility[4]. In the same year, a second yarn spinning unit was set up as well. On 1st April, 1998, Abhishek Spinfab Corporation Limited amalgamated with Abhishek Industries Limited. In 1999, a chemical recovery and cogeneration of power plant with captive power of 9.4 MW were commissioned.
2001- 2010
In 2001, Abhishek Industries Limited collaborated with Varinder Agro Chemicals Limited.
In 2002, The company entered into the Paper business and acquired a paper manufacturing unit[5].
In 2004, Trident Group acquired a third yarn spinning unit and a second bath linen manufacturing unit[6]. The fourth yarn spinning unit was commissioned in 2006.
In 2007, the company set up a textile park and a captive power plant of 20MW was commissioned.
In 2008, a second paper unit at Dhaula, Punjab and another captive power plant of 20MW were commissioned.
In 2009, the third bath linen unit was set up at Dhaula, Punjab and the fifth yarn spinning unit at Budhni, Madhya Pradesh.
In 2010, Trident Group set up its sixth yarn spinning unit at Budhni, Madhya Pradesh.
2011 onwards
2011- Scheme of Arrangement for Amalgamation of TRIDENT INFOTECH LIMITED and TRIDENT AGRITECH LIMITED with TRIDENT LIMITED and the company diversified its paper product portfolio by manufacturing Copier Paper in the same year.
2012- An addition of seventh and eighth yarn spinning unit.
2014- Scheme of Amalgamation of TRIDENT CORPORATION LIMITED with TRIDENT LIMITED. Their Yarn business kept flourishing and Trident Group soon acquired a ninth yarn spinning unit.
2015- The fourth bath linen unit was commissioned at Budhni, Madhya Pradesh.
2016- It expanded its Home Textile product portfolio by commissioning a composite Bed Linen manufacturing facility along with the tenth compact Yarn spinning unit at Budhni, Madhya Pradesh.

Trident Limited entered the e-commerce sector on 7th October 2021 with myTrident.com (28) A platform to sell their home textiles and paper products online.
Trident Limited has signed a licensing agreement with Kathy Ireland Worldwide Inc., a California Corporation, under the range of offerings of Home Textiles. Under this exclusive licensing agreement, Trident shall have the right to use the Kathy Ireland Brand, in its Home Textiles Products (29).
New York Showroom
Trident is opening its third home fashions showroom in New York City. The new 10,000 square foot space will be located at 320 Fifth Ave, 8th Floor, NYC NY 10001 (30). The facility will house the North American Headquarters of Trident Limited and Trident Global Inc, the US subsidiary of the Trident Group. TGI’s sales, design, and operations employees will operate out of the new showroom. The facility is expected to open in November, 2021.
Trident Foundation
Trident Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation, fully owned by the Trident Group. The Foundation is led by Mrs. Madhu Gupta. The organisation supports causes like Healthcare, Education & Skill Development, Livelihood, Women Empowerment & Upliftment and Environment & Energy. Also, the foundation runs Madhuban Hospital in Budhni, which is a multi-specialty hospital catering to the public at subsidised rates. It also runs a wide array of skill development schemes for internal and external students, in collaboration with various ministries like MoRD, MoT, PSDM, etc, on schemes like Deen Dyal Upadhaya Gramen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), Samarth, PMKVY, RPL, Ghar Ghar Rozgar Scheme, etc. (31)
Innovations
Earlier in 2020, Trident had announced to add antimicrobial treatment to all its terry towels (32). Trident has an exclusive partnership with Swiss antimicrobial expert Sanitized AG (33). Trident is also an exclusive partner of Biocrystal Stress Relief Technology based out of Europe for manufacturing JIVA stay stress free towels (34). Trident also manufactures Eco-Dri towels in association with Cocona Inc.

Controversies
On 5th April, 2021, a major fire broke out at a cotton godown in Budhni. The fire damaged cotton stocks lying in the warehouse, resulting in substantial loss of goods. The damage was further compounded due to strong dry winds and inclement weather. There was no casualty reported at the incident and the losses were recovered under insurance.
