One of the most important DJ and production duo in activity today, Brazilian ensamble Tropkillaz is formed by DJ Zé Gonzales (aka Zegon) and (André) Laudz[1]. Zegon is the former member of N.A.S.A. (alongside Sam Spiegel) and Planet Hemp, with a career spans over 20 years with credits on over 100 records with artists such as Kanye West, David Byrne and a few Wu Tang Members. Laudz worked with rap stars like Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, as well as the main MCs of Brazil’s new hip hop scene. Among their hits, it's "Bola Rebola"[2], that won a Latin Grammy.
True to the modern tale of partnerships, they met on Twitter a decade ago, before becoming one of the most influential names in music today. Combining old school and contemporary influences, the two converged from different generations to a shared sound, uniting electronic styles as bass, funk, dancehall with elements of traditional rhythms from Brazil, Latin America and the whole world[3]. The duo has worked on productions and remixes by artists such as Bob Marley[4], M.I.A., Sting, J. Balvin, Childish Gambino, Justin Bieber, Major Lazer, Snoop Dogg, Anitta, Billy Idol, Lenny Kravitz, DJ Snake, Jason Darulo, etc. They recently entered the world of K-Pop, having a sample of the two of them featured in a song by Lisa, from Blackpink.[5]
In their 10 year career, Tropkillaz released over 150 songs, played the world’s leading festivals and clubs, performed over 300 shows in almost 50 countries, and was nominated for the Grammys, won the Latin Grammys, the MTV Millennial Awards Brazil, the Latin Music Italian Awards, among others. For their live concerts, Tropkillaz also has a special guest, Heron Love, as host and guest MC. During his extensive career, Love has performed alongside international artists as Soulja Boy, Lil Jon, Ja Rule, Will.I.Am and LMFAO.[6] With songs in famous games as Valorant and blockbuster movie franchises soundtracks as Fast & Furious, Zegon and Laudz are working on the release of their first album in 2023. DJ Marshmello also recently made a spoiler during a visit to Ultra Music Festival Brazil that he will be releasing new music with Tropkillaz soon.
