Troy Anthony Helming (born November 12, 1967) is the founder and chairman of Pristine Sun Corporation, a San Francisco-based solar company, a developer of community utility-scale solar farms across the United States with over 350 solar projects developed and built or sold, totaling over 2 GW (2,000 megawatts) of generating capacity. Additionally, Helming is the founder and CEO of EarthGrid PBC, a public-benefit corporation that is developing a network of multi-functional tunnels for clean renewable energy delivery, among several other community and industrial services. He is an American clean energy advocate, solar entrepreneur, expert witness, engineer, investor, and public speaker. Helming is a competitive Ninja-Warrior athlete and Ninja gym owner. Helming has also authored The Clean Power Revolution (2004).[1]
Early life and education
Helming was born to William Clemens Helming and Sharon Millard Helming on November 12, 1967. During the junior high school and high school years, he helped maintain the solar hot water system at their family home in Shawnee, Kansas. In 1983, Helming enrolled in Shawnee Mission North High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from the University of Kansas (1986 — 1990) with minors in International Business and Spanish. In 1989, he attended the Graduate School of Business at the University of Kansas for a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. The program was completed in 1990. Helming is a member of Mensa. Helming has been rock climbing since 1990 and a yogi since 1991 (specializing in Iyengar practice). Helming led his co-ed cheerleading team, as captain, to the NCAA National Championship (shown on ESPN) in 1990 and was the first 2-time All American male cheerleader from the University of Kansas.
Current business initiatives
Helming, as the Founder & CEO of Pristine Sun Corporation, has led the organization to a portfolio value ($750+ million) with projects built when he sold a portion of the company in 2017. He is also Co-founder, CEO, and developer of a small portfolio of utility-scale and community solar power plants. The company assets were sold primarily to two separate buyers in 2017, with additional solar farm assets sold as well. While developing Earthgrid, Helming’s vision is to offer solutions to renewable energy, Broadband, and water delivery through underground utility tunnels. With these underground systems, he can connect underserved rural communities with faster Broadband internet access and clean water.[2] Furthermore, Helming could offer eCommerce parcel solutions with efficient delivery through these innovative tunnel systems. Earthgrid's plasma boring robots can dig tunnels 100x faster and 98% cheaper than currently utilized boring machinery[3] through a process called spallation.[4] the company has been able to estimate their average underground drilling costs to $300/meter at a scale of 1 kilometer/day.[5]
Clean energy entrepreneur
Helming has been actively involved in the solar-based energy industry for over 40 years. He has built multiple companies with over $30 billion in assets,[6] and has published multiple books on the subject; The Clean Power Revolution (2005) which includes The Freedom Plan. Helming is also the inventor of two clean-tech patents; Floatorack Corp - USPTO App# 15/796689& 20180119994, Red Gopher Cooperative PBC - USPTO App# 15/814311 & 20190085688, with several more patents currently pending.
Past business initiatives
In 1996, Helming founded TradeWind Energy, Inc. and became the #1 Wind Developer in the USA in 2017 (#3 in 2018)[7]; with $30 Billion asset creation. He founded Krystal Energy Corporation in 2002, a renewable energy products, sales & distribution of solar & wind energy systems that included energy saving, efficiency-products for small businesses & homeowners. Helming was the President & Founder of KC Biofuels LLC in 2006, where he designed, built and operated a biodiesel refinery with 10 million gallon/yr. capacity. In 2017, Helming became the Principal at Industry Capital (Clean Energy Fund). In this role, he assisted with solar & clean energy project development and solar project ownership funds. Helming also assisted in project development and capital placement into the funds. From 2018 to 2020, Helming was the Co-Founder, CTO and Chief Development Officer of the innovative robotics company, Petra. He has also founded Solorenewal LLC, an operating portfolio of 15+ utility-scale community solar power plants, also known as "solar farms". Helming is also Chairman of the Board of Traverse Fitness Inc. since 2018.[8]

Troy and Alysia Helming were married on March 14, 2004. They have collaborated as business partners and have built TradeWind Energy Corp. together.
Ninja Warrior Athlete
Helming was invited to compete on the NBC hit TV show American Ninja Warrior 4 times in a row: Seasons 10-13, 2018 (S11 lottery) and placed 8th in the world in the over-40 category at the UNAA World Championships (Ultimate Ninja Athletic Association)[9] Despite being in his 50s, Helming competes in the Pro Elite division against younger athletes and he regularly qualifies for Regionals & World Championships as a top 1-3% of professional athletes.
