Troy Daniel Parrott (Born 4 February 2002) is an Irish footballer, who plays as a striker for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur.
Personal Life[edit]
Troy Parrott was born in Dublin, Ireland, and attended O'Connell School in Drumcondra, on the city's north side.[2]
Club Career[edit]
Troy Parrott joined Tottenham Hotspur from Dublin youth side Belvedere F.C. in June 2017. In April 2018 he won the golden boot award at the U-17 Maggioni-Righi International Tournament in Italy. His 10 goals in 5 games, including a hat-trick against Juventus and a brace against the same opponents in the third place play-off, led Tottenham's Head of Coaching and Player Development, John McDermott to say: "Troy Parrott scored 10 goals, plus a penalty in the shootout, so it was a really good start for him in his first tournament with Tottenham."[3]
In the 2018/2019 season, Troy Parrott made 30 appearances for Spurs U-18's, U-19's and eventually the U-23's, scoring 20 goals.[1] On 6 November 2018 he scored his first European goal for Tottenham in a 2-0 UEFA Youth League home win over PSV Eindhoven.[4] On 28 November 2018 he scored a stunning goal against Inter Milan, and on December hit the target in a 2-0 victory in Barcelona.[5][6] By this stage Parrott was also training with Tottenham’s first team squad, under the watchful eye of Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino. On 8 December 2018, Parrott traveled with the Tottenham first team for the Premier League fixture against Leicester City.[7] He was named as the 19th man, the player would would come into the squad in the event of a late injury. Having impressed the coaching staff, Troy Parrott signed his first professional with Tottenham on his 17th birthday.[8] For the remainder of the 2018/2019 season, he continued to join in with first team training.
In the summer of 2019, Parrott was included in Tottenham's pre-season tour of Asia.[9] On Sunday 21 July, Parrott made his debut for Tottenham Hotspur in an International Champions Cup match against Juventus, at Singapore National Stadium. Parrott assisted Tottenhams opening goal, forcing legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon into a good save, before Erik Lamela followed up to score[10] Parrott made his second start for Tottenham on 25 July 2019 against Manchester United at the Hongkou stadium in Shanghai, China. On 30 July Parrott made his third Tottenham appearance, when he replaced England captain Harry Kane in the second half of the Audi Cup semi-final match against Real Madrid, at the Allianz Arena in Munich. In the dying minutes of the game, he was unfortunate not to score; his shot coming back off the inside of a post.[11] Troy Parrott has been spoken of in high regard by past Tottenham captains Ledley King and Robbie Keane, who both feel that his mentality and work rate, physicality, and goal-scoring ability are indications that the young striker will have a great future in the game.[12][13]
International Career[edit]
On 15 November 2016, Troy Parrott made his first appearance for the Republic of Ireland in a scoreless draw with Poland in an U-15 international friendly.[14] He has since represented his country at U-16 and U-17 level. U-19 manager Tom Mohan called Parrott up into his Republic of Ireland squad for their elite qualifying phase in Armenia in the summer of 2019, but Tottenham instead took him on their pre-season tour of Asia. Parrot was also called into Stephen Kenny’s Republic of Ireland U-21 squad in March 2019, but injury forced his withdrawal.[15] He went on to play and score in an under-21's match against Sweden in September 2019.[16] From summer 2019 there were growing calls for the young striker to be included in manager Mick McCarthy’s senior squad, which he has said he is considering.[17][18]
