Trung V. Phan

Trung V. Phan is an American–Vietnamese physicist.

Early Life and Education

Born in Vietnam, Trung Phan came to the United States during high school through a cultural exchange program. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. from Princeton University.[1]

Scientific Career

Phan was a postdoctoral researcher in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology at Yale University, followed by chemical and biomolecular engineering at Johns Hopkins University and the Johns Hopkins Medical Institute. His current role (starting Fall 2025) is Assistant Professor of Physics at the Claremont Colleges, affiliated with both Pitzer and Scripps.[2]

Trung Phan is also engaged in mentoring the next generation of scientists. He develops educational content, coaches teams for International Physics Olympiads (IPhO and APhO), and supports Vietnamese students in scientific exploration.[3]
