Synopsis[edit]

The film follows the premise that, as a society, we lack essential knowledge regarding our healthcare system..[1]

What follows is an exposé on the World Health Organisation and a discussion of the possibility that the organisation has been infiltrated by the influence of private industry.[2] Franck asserts that, not only do the representatives of the member states that make up the WHO manipulate the organisation for their own national economic interests, but that the influence of the tobacco, nuclear and pharmaceutical industries results in legislation that benefits the private sector more than it does the public.[3]

Release[edit]

The German film premiere took place on February 10, 2018, in Berlin at the Hackesche Höfe Cinema[4]. The theatrical release of the film in Germany was on March 1, 2018, and the film screened in over 25 cinemas nation wide.[5]

Reception[edit]

trustWHO received generally positive reviews in the German press, with several outlets emphasising the severity of the topic. The Munich newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, cited that the documentary "diagnosed a deep crisis of the WHO"[6], whilst Tip Berlin suggested that the film was "Frightening and worth seeing"[7]. Other publications went further, asserting that Franck's research was "sobering", suggesting that her findings "cry out for a restructuring of the institution"[8].

Ultimately, there was unified agreement amongst the publications that reviewed the film that Franck had uncovered aspects of the WHO that required closer examination, with Aviva-Berlin.de stating, "Lilian Franck succeeds with her documentary"[9], whilst Programmkino.de regarded the topic as "certainly worthy of discussion"[10]
