TryCaviar
TryCaviar or Caviar (disambiguation), is a website used similarly to Seamless (company) or Grubhub, mainly for selling and buying food across the internet. Caviar was acquired by DoorDash around June of 2019.[1] Caviar is relatively similar to the DoorDash app, but can only be used in select cities. [2] The website later became an app around 2013. [3]
History
Some time in 2018, SoftBank invested billions of dollars into multiple startup businesses, however among the successful was DoorDash, which paid off for the business around December 2nd of 2020. [4] DoorDash bought TryCaviar for 500 million dollars from Square, Inc, which bought it sometime in 2014. [5] On August 24th of 2020, a notation was published on the Caviar website stating that "all Caviar delivery opportunities will transition over to the DoorDash app." Since its transition, it has added to DoorDash's conglomerate of delivery food business(es), now owning Grubhub, Seamless, and Uber Eats. [6] Caviar was initially purchased for 410 million dollars by Square on Halloween of 2014. [7] Caviar is recognized mainly as being partners with DoorDash, although DoorDash serves as a 'manager' for the website itself.
Controversies
Caviar's transfer was met with backlash for low salaries despite high-ranking jobs.[8] Caviar's main criticisms are from its refund policy, and the fact that the app doesn't always deliver food. The lowest reviews describe the company as 'a scam', 'patronizing', and 'poorly built'. [9] The total review of the site is 1.5/5 stars, or thirty percent (labeled as "Bad" on the Trustpilot website). [9] Caviar is also under fire for multiple "scams" under the website name, although most of these were marked as resolved on the official web-page (either with refunds or recommendations). [10]

TryCaviar is currently available in Boston, Brooklyn, Queens, Chicago, Dallas, Fort Worth, Greater Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Manhattan, Marin County, Philadelphia, Portland, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, San Francisco East Bay, San Francisco Peninsula, Seattle, Seattle East Side, South Jersey, and Washington, D.C. Metro. [11] Delivery is ranged beyond that.
