"Trying to Pick a Fight" is the pilot episode for Our Miss Brooks that was produced and made by Desilu Productions. The episode aired on Friday October 3, 1952 at 9:30pm on CBS .

Pilot Summary[edit]

When Walter (Richard Crenna) came to pick Miss. Brooks (Eve Arden) up, he mentioned a story about how fights help a relationship after having a fight with Harriet (Gloria McMillan) giving Miss. Brooks an idea that she should pick a fight with Mr. Boynton (Robert Rockwell), which she failed to do when she had lunch with him.[1] She then mentioned the idea to Osgood (Gale Gordon), causing him to pick a fight with his wife Martha (Paula Winslowe) which ended in terrible results, with the phone operator telling Osgood that she left and took her personal luggage with her (only to find out that she just went to the luggage shop to get a baggage fixed instead), thinking the worst possibilities, Osgood then went to the railroad station borrowing Walter's car to get there. During a phone conversation between Miss. Brooks and Martha, Mr. Boynton walked in and was displeased from what he heard, with them leaving off in bad terms much to Miss. Brooks enjoyment. After hours of the whole group waiting at the Conklin house for Osgood to return, a policeman came in with a soaking wet Osgood, thinking that he stole Walter's car. After everybody made up, the episode ended with Miss. Brooks getting a call from Harriet informing that Walter has been jailed, with her giving Harriet the same advice that Walter gave her that morning.[2]
