Tshiring Jangbu Sherpa (1 August 1977), also known as Nepal's "Father of Ski," was born in Raksikarka, a small Sherpa village in the Solukhumbu district.[1][2]  He did his primary education at Shree Lamu Danda Primary School, Sano Lamo, Solukhumbu and could not pursue further education. He has summited a total of 13 8000m+ peaks and is a great advocate of skiing to promote winter tourism in Nepal.[3] Out of his many achievements, Tshiring most values his lead guide position in the successful "Everest Measurement Project 2019."

Biography[edit]

Tshiring started his career in trekking through the recommendation of his third elder brother with the position of a kitchen boy for a trekking group headed to the Everest Base Camp. During this trek, the novice Tshiring faced numerous difficulties and recalled the experience as one of the most embarrassing moments of his life. While he joined the trek with no knowledge about the field, the debut trek taught him a lot. It pushed him to look into the job seriously and to acquire as much knowledge and skills as possible.

In the year 2003, he received his second trekking opportunity as an assistant guide to Mt. Lhoste. He made it to the summit at 8516 meters without any supplementary oxygen. The impressive feat provided Tshiring with the confidence and motivation to pursue a career in mountaineering. He completed his trekking guide training course in 2000 and started his mountain guide training in 2011. In 2015, he joined Nepal Mountain Academy to complete a diploma in Mountain Guide and subsequently became a member of NNMGA(Nepal National Mountain Guide Association).

Finally, in 2016 he received his membership into the International Federation of Mountain Guide Association(IMFGA) and became a certified International Mountain Guide (IMG). Since then, he has climbed 13 8000m+ mountains, including three successful summits to Everest. Alongside his IMG training, Tshiring underwent Ski training in Europe. In 2016, he certified as a ski instructor and was made a member of the Ski Committee of Nepal. He is also the Managing Director of his own company, Alpine Sherpa Guide Trek and Expedition.

In addition, he has been a board member of the National Mountain Association (NMA) since 2019, where he works as a training instructor in courses offered by the NMA and also holds a position of General secretary of the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association. Out of his many achievements, Tshiring most values his lead guide position in the successful "Everest Measurement Project 2019," a top-notch National Pride Project, which led him to be honored by the then Prime Minister Mr. KP Sharma Oli.
