Tshwane FM 93.6, previously known as TUT Top Stereo 93.6, is a South African radio station, broadcasting in English Sesotho, Setswana, Sepedi, and IsiZulu, with a footprint that covers Pretoria and boasts a listening audience of 68 000 people a week and a digital community of more than 40 000 people a month. The station's format is mainstream with programming constructed around a playlist of urban hit music. Established in 2004 as a project by the University's Department of Journalism, the station has grown into one of the largest campus-based radio stations in the country. It operates under the Higher Education Act 101 of 1997 and serves the vibrant community of Tshwane.

History[edit]

Tshwane FM 93.6 originated as a project by the University's Department of Journalism, starting its broadcast journey in March 2004. Initially, it operated from the journalism broadcast training studio, limiting its broadcasting hours to six per day. However, in October 2005, the station moved to state-of-the-art studios, allowing it to extend its broadcasting hours to 19 per day. In 2010, the station rebranded as Tshwane FM and expanded its broadcast hours to 24/7, covering a signal radius of approximately 50km, encompassing the entire greater Tshwane area and parts of Johannesburg. Operating under the Higher Education Act, Tshwane FM is a non-profit organization licensed by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) to provide a community sound broadcasting service in a 50km radius covering areas like Pretoria CBD, Attridgeville, Lotus Garden, Centurion, Lanseria, and more.

The Tshwane FM FM signal is beamed via STL from the Tshwane University of Technology tallest Residence, Denise in Pretoria West and carried on the frequency 93.6 MHz. The station is self-transmitting Live worldwide audio streaming is hosted by iono.fm.
