Tur Abdin Massacre

The Tur Abdin Massacre (Syriac: ܛܘܐ ܕܬܘܪܐ ܒܐܕܝܢ) was a massacre that took place in 1915 during World War I,[1][2] in which Kurdish forces attacked the Assyrian civilian population in the Tur Abdin region of southeastern Turkey. During this brutal episode, an estimated 10,000 Assyrians were killed.[3] The massacre was part of the broader Assyrian genocide.[4] [5] [6]

Massacre

In 1915, Kurdish militias attacked Assyrian villages in Tur Abdin, killing around 10,000 Assyrians.[8]

Aftermath

After the 1915 Tur Abdin Massacre, the Assyrian population was devastated. Many survivors fled to other regions or into exile, while others were forced to convert or live under harsh conditions.[citation needed]
