Tural Safarov (Azerbaijani: Tural İlham oğlu Səfərov; born 28 February 1985) is an Azerbaijani film director and actor, screenwriter, producer, author, graphic designer and visual effects specialist. He is the author of the films "Koma" and "Jafar".[1]
Life and career
Tural Safarov was born on February 28, 1985 in Baku, originally from Guba region. Although he works as an artist, filmmaker, actor, he mainly works as a VFX Supervisor.[2] After graduating from high school, he entered the branch of the western Russian Humanitarian University in Azerbaijan and got a diploma of law.
In 2003, he was sent to military service at his own request. After graduating from military service in 2005, he starred in the film “Koma”. He also played the lead role in the film.[3][4]
In 2011 he worked as director of FANTASY PICTURES LLC as part of Gilan Holding.[5]
Controversies
On July 11, 2021, Tural Safarov appealed to the public on social media to "rape women who wear exposed clothing in public". He later released an ironic video titled "Pantural Apologizes", where he called his critics "prostitutes".[6]
Safarov's actions were widely criticized and provoked a public outcry.[6] The State Committee for Family, Women and Children addressed an appeal to law enforcement agencies regarding Safarov. Elgun Safarov, head of the committee's information and analytical research department, called Pantural's statements "unacceptable" and added that the call for violence against women was a "direct violation of human rights and national legislation".[7] Mehriban Zeynalova, chairwoman of the Clean World public association, called the act a "disgrace" and urged women's organizations to appeal to law enforcement agencies about the incident. She also said that she would appeal to the Public Council of the Committee on Family, Women and Children.[8] The Qafqazinfo journalist Murad Ahmad said he believed that "law enforcement agencies will give a legal assessment to the actions of those who call for the commission of crimes specifically provided for in the Criminal Code".[6]
Police Colonel Ehsan Zahidov, spokesman for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, stated that a police investigation was launched against Tural Safarov, adding that a legal decision would be made on the case depending on the investigation.[7] [9]
