Twennynine was an American R&B band.[1][2]
Overview[edit]
Twennynine was founded by jazz fusion drummer Lenny White in 1979. The group featured vocalists Lynn Davis, Carla Vaughn and Joycelyn Smith. As well the band comprised of Skip Anderson upon keyboards, bass guitarist Barry Johnson, and Eddie Martinez upon rhythm guitar.[3][1]
The group went on to release their debut studio album being 1979's Best of Friends upon Elektra Records. The album was co-produced by White and Larry Dunn of Earth, Wind & Fire. Best of Friends rose to 15 and 54 upon the Billboard Top R&B Albums and Billboard 200 charts. The album cut Peanut Butter got to 3 & 83 upon the Billboard Hot R&B Songs and Hot 100 charts. As well another single entitled Best of Friends rose to 47 upon the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart.[1][4][5][3][6][4][5]
Their sophomore album entitled Twennynine with Lenny White was issued in 1980. This album rose to 22 and 106 upon the Billboard Top R&B Albums and Billboard 200 chart. The album cuts Kid Stuff and Fancy Dancer got to 19 & 25 upon the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart. As well Fancy Dancer rose to 17 upon the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. Within that year Twennynine also went on to perform upon American Bandstand and The Mike Douglas Show.[6][7][3][8][9][4][5]
During 1981 their third album Just Like Dreamin' was released once again upon Elektra Records. Just like Dreamin' rose to 41 and 162 upon the Billboard Top R&B Albums and Bilboard 200 charts. As well the album cuts Didn't Know About Love (Till I Found You) and All I Want rose to 31 & 62 upon the Top R&B Albums chart respectively. Another single from the band entitled My Turn To Love You got to 29 upon the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart.[4][5][1][10][3][6][7]
