Ty Hapworth is a Salem, MA City Councillor. He was elected as an At Large Councillor on November 5, 2019, and was re-elected. He currently chairs the Committee on Government Services.
After graduating from the University of Maine in 2005 with a degree in Political Science, Hapworth joined the Army, commissioning as a second lieutenant through Army Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning. After the Army, Hapworth entered the private sector working for both Walmart and Microsoft, where he currently works as a Commercial Executive.
Early life, education, commission and career
Hapworth was born on December 12, 1982, in Waterville, Maine, to Katherine (née Haynes) and John Hapworth, a high school teacher. Hapworth grew up in Winslow, Maine where he met and began dating his future spouse, Micah Bolduc. Hapworth attended the University of Maine and was a freshman during the September 11, 2001 attacks, which prompted him to join the Army. In 2005 he commissioned as a second lieutenant and served for three years as a Fire Direction Officer, Platoon Leader, and Executive Officer with the 75th Fires Brigade, based at Fort Sill. After the Army, Hapworth began working in the private sector, working for Walmart from 2009–2012 and Microsoft from 2012 to the present. In 2019 Hapworth announced his decision to run for Councillor at Large in Salem, Massachusetts. He has been endorsed by the North Shore Labor Council, Rainbow Times, Salem News, and Salem Gazette.
Salem City Council
Hapworth chairs the Government Services Committee and is a member of the Ordinances, Licenses and Legal Affairs Committee, the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, and is a liaison to the Salem Historic Commission.
Personal life
Hapworth and his wife, Micah, live in downtown Salem with their two school-aged children.
