Tyler Marsh (born December 9, 1987) is an assistant coach for Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA.[1] Marsh had previously been an assistant coach/player development coach for the Indiana Pacers.
College career
Marsh played at Alabama Birmingham for two seasons before transferring to Birmingham–Southern College. Marsh didn't see much time at UAB during his freshman and sophomore years, but at Birmingham-Southern, he was a key reserve for the team. He averaged 16.1 minutes a game during the 2008–2009 season.[2]
Coaching career
NBA G-League
Marsh began his career in the coaching world as a player development coach for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He originally applied for an internship with the Houston Rockets, but it was filled by someone else. He met Nick Nurse there, who hired him to be a part of the Vipers coaching staff.[3] In 2013–2014, Marsh was the assistant coach for the Iowa Energy. Following his year with the Energy, Marsh became an assistant coach for the Bakersfield Jam. Marsh was an assistant coach for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.[4]
Alabama A&M
Marsh spent one year at Alabama A&M as an assistant coach under his father, Donnie Marsh, who was the head coach there.[5]
Toronto Raptors
Marsh reunited with Nick Nurse once again in the 2018–2019 NBA season—this time in Toronto. Marsh was hired as an assistant video coordinator. In his first year with the Raptors, Marsh was a part of Toronto's first NBA Championship.[6]
Indiana Pacers
In 2020, Marsh was hired by the Pacers as an assistant coach/player development coach.[7] Marsh spent two years with the Pacers in that role before he moved on to his next stop.
Las Vegas Aces
Marsh was named one of Becky Hammon's assistants when she took over in Las Vegas with the Aces of the WNBA.[8] Marsh and Hammon worked well together because Hammon was open to feedback and wanted her coaching staff’s input.[9] In his first season with the Aces, Marsh helped the team capture their first WNBA Title. Marsh is credited with helping Jackie Young improve her shooting form prior to the start of the 2022 season. They adjusted her shot to keep the ball to her right, rather than in front of her face.[10]
