Tyler Sugiyama
Tyler Sugiyama (born December 11, 1990, in Chicago, Illinois) is an American entrepreneur and former collegiate basketball player, known as the founder and CEO of AIR-A, a pioneering company in global private media production and content distribution.[1] Prior to founding AIR-A, Sugiyama built a distinguished career in global banking and markets, notably at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, specializing in global markets, banking, and structured financial products.[2]
Early Life and Basketball Career
Sugiyama played basketball for Larry Butler's Illinois Warriors and at New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois. He was nationally recognized as a top point guard prospect during his early and throughout high school career, earning spots among the top 250 players nationally and top 10 in Illinois. He participated in elite camps such as the Pangos and Reebok All-American Camp. Sugiyama played as a guard for the University of Southern California Trojans from 2009 to 2013. Though his playing time was limited, he contributed as a reliable reserve on teams lead by Nik Vucevic, Dewayne Dedmon, and Bryce Dejean-Jones, and Jio Fontan.[3]
Professional Career in Global Banking and Markets
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a minor in Business from USC,[4] Sugiyama transitioned into finance. He worked at J.P. Morgan in various capacities before joining Bank of America Merrill Lynch in 2015. Over eight years at BofA Merrill Lynch in New York, Sugiyama advanced to Director roles covering global banking, markets, and specialized securitized products.[5]
AIR-A
In 2023, Sugiyama founded AIR-A, where he serves as CEO. AIR-A focuses on content production and distribution technologies, with particular emphasis on sports and finance media production. The company collaborates with notable professionals, including NBA veteran Dewayne Dedmon, who serves as head of player advisory.[6]
Congressional Page
Sugiyama served as a Congressional Page in the United States House of Representatives in 2008.
