The UFSCtock is an arts festival that has taken place since 2009 at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Florianópolis. Organized by students, it was held annually, with its last edition taking place in 2014.

Its programming, initially focused on independent music, has been expanded to include visual arts exhibitions, debates, theatre, workshops, and films, featuring national attractions at the music festival. During its run, UFSCtock was considered an important platform for Santa Catarina music and considered the largest independent music festival in the state.

History

There has been, and still is, interest in creating new editions and even expanding to other campuses, but this depends on the university's institutional and financial support, which has not been forthcoming in recent years.

The idea for the festival originated in 2001, when the Central Directory of Students, Luis Travassos, organised an event in the UFSC's Wood, "like Woodstock." This sparked the idea for the event, which was finally realised eight years later, not on the 40th anniversary of the famous festival.[1][2]

Between 2009, the first edition (still very amateur), and the last in 2014, the festival underwent a major transformation. From a structure most resembling a party in 2009, by 2010 UFSCtock already featured its first nationally important attraction – rapper BNegão – a trend that continued in subsequent editions. Criolo, Karol Conká, Móveis Coloniais de Acaju, O Terno, Mombojó, and Vivendo do Ócio were some of the great Brazilian artists and bands that performed at UFSCtock. Since 2011, the festival has expanded beyond music to include theatre, visual arts exhibitions, debates, workshops, and films, as well as a children's version called UFSCtockinho ("Little UFSCtock"). The duration also increased from two days to a week.[3][1][4][5][6][7][8][9]

The festival is no longer active due to bureaucratic problems with the university. There is, however, an intention to resume it.
