UGC 224 known as Arp 201,[1] are pair of interacting galaxies located 860 million light-years in the constellation of Pisces.[2]
Details[edit]
The pair comprises UGC 224 NED01 (PGC 1504)[3] a type E galaxy and UGC NED02 (PGC 1503)[4] a S0 galaxy, with a separation of 0.4'.[5] They are slowly gravitationally drifting towards each other and are in the first phase of merging.[6] A faint plume is seen around the pair[7] hinting they are possibly undergoing intense star formation.[6] The galaxies have an approximate diameter of 140,000 thousand light-years which means they are slightly bigger compared to the Milky Way. Both galaxies belong to Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies which they belong to class of galaxies of material that is ejecting from nuclei.
