UNOFEX International Film Awards
The UNOFEX International Film Awards is a semi-annual film competition organized by the UNOFEX LLC Organization (Union of Excellence) based in New York City. It was introduced for the first time during the outbreak of the Covid-19 disease and was listed as a non-profit film festival to support filmmakers worldwide.
History[edit]
In 2016 UNOFEX Director Deivis H. Valdes launched the UNOFEX as a platform to unite and form an exceptional community of accredited professionals worldwide working within the Film & TV, Fashion, Entertainment, and Art Industry. In 2017 the UNOFEX (Union of Excellence) remains as the first organization who assigns accreditation badges in 5 major areas of the creative industry. Established by a panel of industry experts the UNOFEX has accredited hundreds of members including award winning talent, leaders and global operating institutions.
In 2020, UNOFEX initiated a way to support filmmakers during the COVID-19 crisis, since the coronavirus pandemic has created disruptions all over the globe, and filmmakers as well as artists have not been spared from its effects. In fact production companies have been held back as releases are put on hold until the crisis is over.
Forced by the circumstances and global requests by filmmakers to establish a solution, the UNOFEX organization decided to create an international film festival in digital format. The idea first came up at the beginning of March 2020 and was officially announced shortly after the cancellation of the Cannes Film Festival on March 20, 2020.
The UNOFEX International Film Awards 2020 was the first online non-profit festival during the corona outbreak which was held strictly in digital format. This means film submission, selection, nomination, and the award ceremony is held completely online. UNOFEX partnered with the film submission platform FestHome where more than 70 percent of all film submissions of the UNOFEX Awards were collected. The Festival Director Deivis H. Valdes, and their panel of experts hosted the first edition of the film competition free of charge.
Submission for the first edition of the UNOFEX Film Awards began on April 27, 2020 (one month after finding and announcing the idea of the digital film awards) and ended on July 20, 2020. The Nominees were announced and notified on July 31, 2020. The award ceremony was held on August 10, 2020 in digital format. The award categories includes the best feature film, the best short film, best actress/actor, the best director, the best documentary, and the best music video.
